In the run up to Evolve and Thrive: Brexit, a meeting of minds hosted by Connor on 2nd May, we caught up with one of our speakers to discover more on their perspectives on Brexit. Ian Mace is the Brexit Lead for Associated British Foods, and has been planning for Brexit for the last two years. Here’s what he had to say.
At the moment, it can feel like planning for Brexit is a guessing game. The announcement of an extension to Brexit until October is just another example of ways in which predicting what will happen – and then planning for it – feels nigh impossible.
But the truth is, that’s often because organisations haven’t started that planning process yet. From the bottom of the mountain, Everest looks impossible to climb – but the only way to get started is to take the first step.
At ABF, with our plans already in development, adjusting them in the light of new developments is a constant challenge – but not an impossible one. So is planning for Brexit a guessing game? Not in my view. It’s complex and changeable – but if you can rise to the challenge, it can leave your organisation in a much stronger position to deal with Brexit.
