Allianz / Liverpool Victoria (LV)

Delivering a multi-company, large scale and complex change programme ‘remotely’

3 companies – 716 employees impacted – 2 rounds of individual consultations – delivered virtually over 3 months

The challenge

In early 2020 Allianz acquired an arm of Legal & General (L&G) merging the newly acquired L&G function within LV as well an integration with Allianz, into the parent company’s target operating model.  This required extensive consultation with 716 employees from these three organisations to be conducted in short order (Sep-Nov 20).

Connor was engaged to work alongside the existing HR staff in the functional areas of Project Management, HR Consultation Meeting Expertise, Communications Expertise, employment law navigation, investigations and appeals support – all delivered virtually.  We quickly mobilised a “squad” of 11 highly experienced HR professionals, hand selected to culturally fit with the client’s existing team.

Why Connor?

The LV HRD, Sharon Juleff had worked with Connor before on a big company reorganisation so had total faith that we could deliver against the brief.  Sharon trusted us to provide a turnkey solution on the consultation elements of this complex project and communicated this to key stakeholders.

“I reached out to Connor as I knew from previous experience that they would deliver the brief professionally and with an understanding of our culture and expectations. I also knew that their people would care and reflect our values and put people first.

They came in at a pivotal moment and the feedback from our line managers, our people affected and our consultative bodies was extremely positive. They hit the ground running and demonstrated a high degree of empathy and understanding of our position with Su doing a great job managing the team and engaging with all relevant stakeholders.  We threw them in at the deep end with the project already underway at pace and I’m so pleased that they were able to showcase just how great they are!”

The approach

We never forgot that we were impacting the lives of human beings, in this case 716 affected employees.  On this project (like all others) we put people first, handling all projects and individuals with the utmost consideration.  Connor delivered on this highly sensitive project whilst overcoming  the objections of being external and managing all meetings virtually.

“I think sometimes the assumption with external resource can be ‘it’s not the same’ … How wrong I was!  Thank you Connor!  For not only alleviating the pressure but for being so well prepared and knowledgeable.”

Jo Nash, LV, Consultation Meeting Scheduler

“Elizabeth from Connor was brilliant, she was a great support to me and was really proactive, ensuring scripts were correct and was in constant communication throughout the process putting me at my ease”.

Tim Weaver, Legal & General, Operational Planning Manager

What the client said

Well, what a 3 months it has been! 716 employees consulted in total, yet with only 8 appeals, and this was achieved with all meetings conducted virtually.  Your contribution to these amazing statistics cannot be understated.  To think you had the challenges of joining the project part-way through, handling the cultural nuances of three companies merging into one and of course being external HR Experts new to the way we do things around here.  However, you very quickly became accepted by the managers and employees, providing a seamless service, working alongside our in-house HR professionals to deliver legally defensible meetings – whilst showing real empathy and a personal touch towards all our people.

I heard so many positive comments about your support; just as a flavour, I heard comments like ‘the support has been phenomenal’ and ‘you were totally prepped / knowledgeable from the very start. My special thanks goes to Su McDonald who pulled it all together as On-Site Project Manager, handling ambiguity and complex stakeholder relationships, all whilst running at speed!”
